Preferensi media baca siswa SMA terhadap buku fisik dan buku elektronik di era literasi digital

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the reading media preferences of students at SMA Negeri 8 Penajam Paser Utara toward printed books and e-books in the digital literacy era. This research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 22 students who completed an online questionnaire, supported by limited interviews. The data were analyzed using frequencies and percentages without altering the respondents’ original answers. The findings showed that 11 students (50%) preferred e-books as their primary reading medium, 10 students (45.45%) preferred printed books, and 1 student (4.55%) used both media in a balanced manner. These findings indicate that e-books were slightly more dominant because they were considered practical, accessible, and cost-efficient. However, printed books remained attractive because they offered comfort, supported concentration, and provided a deeper reading experience. This study emphasizes that digital literacy should not be positioned as a replacement for printed books, but rather as a complementary medium in fostering a balanced reading culture among students.
